Futsal: National Team Defeats Uzbekistan (5-3) in Friendly

Morocco’s National Futsal team defeated Saturday its Uzbek counterpart (5-3) in a friendly played at the Mohammed VI Complex of soccer in Maâmoura.

The reigning African champions dominated the game thanks to a double from Bilal Bekkali, and goals from Hamza Bouizane, Saad Knia and Anas Ariane.

The opposing team’s three goals were scored by Davron Chroiev, author of a double, and Akbar Usmonov.

The Moroccan and Uzbek selections will meet on Sunday for a second friendly game, again in Maâmoura. This double confrontation serves as a preparation for the next deadlines.

The national futsal team dominated its Ghanaian counterpart by 8 goals to 3 on Saturday at the Palais des Sports hall in Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex, on the 2nd day of Group A of the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which runs until April 21 in Morocco.

Morocco tops Group A with six points from two wins over Angola and Ghana.

The eight teams qualifying for this year’s tournament have been divided into two groups. Group A includes two-time defending champions Morocco, Angola, Ghana and Zambia, while Group B comprises Egypt, Libya, Namibia and Mauritania.

The top three teams in this African competition will book their places at the FIFA Futsal World Cup to be held in Uzbekistan from September 14 to October 6.

Morocco’s futsal team beat Angola 5-2 on Thursday at the Sports Hall of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, on the 1st day of Group A of the Futsal African Cup of Nations (AFCON), which runs until April 21 in Morocco.

In the other match in the group, Zambia won Ghana (5-2) earlier in the day.

The eight teams qualified for this edition of the Futsal AFCON have been divided into two groups. Group A includes two-time champions Morocco, Angola, Ghana and Zambia, while Group B comprises Egypt, Libya, Namibia and Mauritania.

Thanks to its performances, Morocco is still the pride of Africa, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, said on Wednesday.

“We all know how proud Morocco made us and Africa during the Qatar World Cup. I am perfectly sure that Morocco will continue in the same vein to make us even prouder,” said Motsepe on his arrival at Rabat-Salé airport, to attend the opening of the Futsal African Cup of Nations (Morocco-2024).

The CAF chief also thanked the Kingdom for hosting this Futsal AFCON, adding that “there are times when Morocco remains the only country capable of organizing some African competitions.”

The official also pointed out that several African countries, whose stadiums do not meet the required standards, play their matches in Morocco.

He also mentioned that he had visited a stadium in Sao Tomé, built with the contribution of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, expressing his thanks to HM King Mohammed VI for his efforts to promote football in Africa.

The 2024 CAF Futsal AFCON will be held on April 11-21 at the Ibn Yassine Hall and the Sports Hall at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

Morocco will compete in Group A alongside Angola, Ghana and Zambia, while Group B includes Egypt, Libya, Namibia and Mauritania.

Morocco, who also hosted the previous edition of the CAF Futsal AFCON in 2020, are two-time defending champions.

  To date, the Moroccan futsal team maintains its 8th position in futsal world ranking with a total of 1529 points as indicated below:

Morocco was drawn in group A of the CAF Futsal AFCON 2024, alongside Angola, Ghana and Zambia, following the draw, held Thursday at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé.

   Group B includes Egypt, Libya, Namibia and Mauritania.

   Eight African teams, divided into two groups, are taking part in this 7th edition of CAF Futsal AFCON.

   CAF Futsal AFCON 2024 games will be held on April 11-21 at the Ibn Yassine hall and at the Sports Palace of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

   Morocco, which also organized the previous edition of CAF Futsal AFCON, is the double title holder.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) awarded Morocco the organization of the 2024 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced on Wednesday.

This edition, which will be held in April, will be a qualifier for the 2024 World Cup, scheduled for Uzbekistan, the FRMF pointed out on its website.

This is the second futsal AFCON hosted by the Kingdom, following the 2020 edition organized in Laâyoune.
