Morocco Bests Angola, Wins Futsal AFCON

The Moroccan national team won the Futsal African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024), for the third time in a row, after besting Angola 5-1 in the final played Sunday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Hall in Rabat.

   Soufiane Bourite (6th), Idriss Rais El Fenni (16th), Soufiane El Mesrar (17th), Anas El Ayyane (31st) and Bilal Bakkali (35th) scored for the Atlas Lions, while Adérito (7th) scored the only goal for the Angolans.

   Earlier in the day, Libya beat Egypt 3-1 on penalties (regular time: 2-2) to secure the third spot.

   The top three teams in this African contest book their tickets at the Futsal World Cup, which will be held in Uzbekistan from September 14 to October 6.

   Reiterating His congratulations to the members of the national team and all technical and administrative executives of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, His Majesty the King prays the Almighty to grant them greater success and awards during the 2024 World Cup in Uzbekistan, and in their sustained efforts to climb the highest steps of the podiums on continental and international levels.

The Moroccan national team has qualified for the final of the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON Morocco-2024) and secured a place at the next World Cup, after beating its Libyan counterpart 6-0 in the semi-finals on Friday at the Palais des Sports of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

The Moroccan team’s goals were scored by Soufiane El Mesrar (3rd, 22nd), Youssef Jouad (6th), Bilal Bakkali (12th, 29th) and Anas El Ayyane (17th).

To claim their third title in a row, the Atlas Lions will face Angola in the final, which qualified at the expense of Egypt (7-3).     

The final and classification game will take place on April 21, at 8pm and 5pm (GMT+1), respectively.

   The Atlas lions’ goals were scored by Bilal Bakkali (2), Soufian Charraoui (2), Anas El Ayyane (2), Soufiane El Mesrar (1), Ismail Amazal (1), Idriss El Fenni (1), Othmane Elidrissi (1), Anas Dahani (1), Youssef Jouad (1) and Jackson Siwmawami (OG).

   Thanks to this victory, the Moroccan team tops Group A with nine points from three wins against Angola, Ghana and Zambia.

In the other match in the group, Zambia won Ghana (5-2) earlier in the day.
