Throne Cup
Throne Cup
The Throne Cup, often known as the Moroccan Cup, is an annual knockout football event held by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. It brings together Moroccan clubs from the amateur first division, as well as the first and second tiers of the professional league, for home and away games. The round of 32 features teams from the first amateur and second professional divisions. In round 16, the victorious teams meet the teams that advanced from the first portion of the professional tournament via a draw, with the losing teams eliminated in each round until the final.
This Cup’s events began in 1957, replacing the old Moroccan Cup, which had begun in 1916. The late Moroccan King Mohammed V dubbed it the Throne Cup, and it is still officially known as such today. The Mouloudia Oujda club won the first edition of this cup, and AS FAR is still the most successful team, having won 12 times.
